Tabloidization of the news media in Turkey

In the history, because of the oppressive government in Turkey, people can not write or tell their own rebellious ideas. Today I think it appears more different, but they have common purpose: prevent showing people the truth and prohibit enlightening the society. According to Bek in Turkey there is tabloidization and personalization of the news. In such television channels; Star TV, Show TV, ATV and Channel D do not give people unbiased information about the world. They insert their own, actually their owner's, opinions and they make critics about lots of social and political events. They do not search the historical or social background of the events. "This is happened, and they tell that.., and in our opinion this is for that.." Whole news was just like that. These commercial channels want to inform people together with entertainment. I like some programs in Cnn-Türk, because they want to show the reality in the world. But is it adequate just to have small account of puclic service channels. I think for a development of a country, there should be more free media to enlighten people. I do not like the tabloidization of politics or personalization of news, because they contain unnecessary and confusing information for people.

2 marks. Compare different Turkish media outlets - does the owner have an influence.

I recognize, that in today's Turkey media owners control their media outlets through their political ideologies on the newspapers and on the commercial channels. They control the content of the news, the opinions, which will given to the audience for their benefit. Media organizations usually show the owner's ideologies. The bosses of the big media groups have close relationships with political parties. AKP has a key role in controlling the media. As an example, when Emin Çölaşan wanted to show people the reality, but he was fired by Aydın Doğan, whose authority is dependent on AKP. As newspapers, Sabah, Zaman and importantly Vakit, which includes a religios content, are under the control of AKP and they can not write something against the government. Also Star TV and Uzan Group published commercials of their owner Cem Uzan in the election time. All the channels and the newspaper in Turkey can not show the truth objecttively, because of politic ideologies and benefits of their owners. Instead of informing people, their aim is to adopt the ideology of the political party to the society. I think there is not freedom of media in Turkey and all these intrigues and duplicity are shame of the politicians for me.

2 marks. Write an autobiographical entry on your relationship with the media

I think media is one of the most important part of the society. It provides people entertaining programs, information and different views about the events in the world. As I was a child, I mostly watch cartoons, which also aimed to give information to the children about relationships, social norms, etc. When I started to the primary school and bored with the homeworks, I usually sat in front of the TV about more than 3 hours on a day. I used to watch reality shows, serials, news and magazine programs and used to lost my time for them. It was just like that in my whole education years, until Sabanci University. Now I understand that just watching the television without doing noting is meaningless. In contrast today's world, people watched TV after the dinner as an activity and discussed the events together, in the old times. Radio and the TV are the only source, that gives the reality to them. But today, I think watching television is just waste of time. Now in Sabanci, I live in the dorm and I do not need to watch TV, because I realize that I have got lots of things to do. Moreover I have a big opportunity to use and get information from the Internet.

Television: Plug in Drug

This text is full of quotations, statistic and facts. I really agree with the writer, because the TV is the most important threat for social life, which includes communication with others. I argue, that today because of developing technologies, especially because of media, children grown up alone without a social life. Before the invention of the television children play with other in the streets, they participate some activities together and the most worrying fact, that they communicate with their parents. As an example, when I was a kid, my mother read me stories, but now as I see from my friends, some mothers left their children alone in front of the television, so they fall asleep, while watching TV. This is an example for lack of communication in families. As written in the text TV decreases the quality of life and creates a lack of communication, which effects the social life. I should not only blame the television, today computers take place of the TV and they will be a threat, too. The fact is, that television harms the development of children and the quality of life.

Reality Tv:A Dearth of Talent and The Death of Morality

This text expresses the hidden negative sides of the television and in that point I totally agree with the writer. Television programs are altered in course of time with developing technology. At first television was just an entertainment for people and it only contained useful shows to inform them about the world. Today we see that in lots of channels reality shows are popular. The content of them are mostly observation the lives of people, such as "Big Brother" and "Paradise Hotel", marriage programs like "Bachelor and Bachelorette", also sewing and cooking programs. I think that these are just waste of time. People prefer attending these shows, just for becoming famous, which is the most common normal way. These reality Tv shows includes voyeuristic and exhibitionistic facts, which attracts people's attention. This is the most important effect for increasing popularity of reality Tv. People see themselves in that programs and they want to observe their reactions or behaviours against events. Reality Tv is just a mirror for society, when they watch, it reflects their own personailty. I think it is boring, beause all programs have the same content, there is no useful information. Also as writer argues all of that voyeurism and exhibitionism will cause the death of the morality. Reality Tv should be a enourmous concern for the humanity.

Enormous Radio

Jim and Irene Westcott had a regular life, they had been married nine years, they were parents, they lived in an apartment house, they went to the theater, they listened to the radio after dinner and the most important thing is that they had a good relationship and communication with each other, until Jim brought a new modern radio. This radio has a function of the transmission other apartments sounds. Listening to the radio was an addiction for Irene. This story indicates that new technologies could create changes in people's lives. Irene had psycologic problems and she became a depressive, sad, vague, curious and irresponsible woman. Irene's behaviours had changed because of the new technology. She just listened others conversations, but she had not got a solution for them. Today people can affirm from scientific statistics, that growning technologies isolate people from the society. Enormous radio is an extreme example for its proof. If Irene had not got a radio, from which she could listen others, she can communicate with her neighbours, listen their problems and find solutions for them. Irene was isolated, she was alone at home and her relationship with her husband was damaged because of her addiction to this new techonology.
